Snack = Love

"We build deep and loving family relationships by doing simple things together, like family dinner and family home evening and by just having fun together. In family relationships love is really spelled t-i-m-e, time. Taking time for each other is the key for harmony at home. We talk with, rather than about, each other. We learn from each other, and we appreciate our differences as well as our commonalities. We establish a divine bond with each other as we approach God together through family prayer, gospel study, and Sunday worship.”

To most people this just looks like a snack.
 To Mackenzie, this means love and that I haven't forgotten her! Since starting kindergarten, Mackenzie and her sisters have always arrived home to find a snack waiting at the table. This has been going on ever since July. A couple of weeks ago, I got a little busy and lost track of time. When Mackenzie arrived home from school and there wasn't a snack waiting, she quietly began sobbing. I thought something must have gone wrong at school but when I went to hug her and to find out what was wrong I was surprised by her reason. She said, "Mom, you forgot about me today. There is no snack and that means you forgot I was gone at school and you didn't miss me." Ouch... I never realized until a couple of weeks ago how a simple snack meant so much more than just something to fill a hungry tummy. To Mackenzie, it was the difference of me showing her I missed her while she was away and a way of letting her know I was glad she was back. Let's just say, I hope Mackenzie never comes home without a snack waiting for her at the table and a chair waiting for me to sit and find out how her day went!

I love being the Mom!
